NFRSF14 is a member of the tumor necrosis factor receptor superfamily, also known as herpesvirus entry mediator (HVEM). This protein serves as a co-stimulatory factor for lymphocyte activation and has a deterrent effect on herpesvirus infection. It has been shown to stimulate T cell proliferation and induce apoptosis in various tumor cells. Reports indicate that this protein can also prevent tumor necrosis factor α-mediated apoptosis in primary hepatic cells. Two selective splicing transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been reported.
TNFRSF14/HVEM binding to TNFRSF14/HVEM transmits co-stimulatory signals to T cells, leading to T cell proliferation and IFN-γ production.
